"A look back at some Successful Fencor Teams"

The Fencor 1989 age group is one of the most successful in the history of AAU basketball. Starting at the age of 10 years old, the Fencor team won 3 AAU national championships, two times finished second and finished third once. It won 7 Middle Atlantic championships and lost only one game. They also finished second at the prestigious End of the Trail tournament in Oregon and won the Boo Williams Tournament in the silver division.
'Some' of those players included Elena Delle Donne (WNBA Rookie of the Year), Caroline Doty (two-time national champion at UConn), Lindsay Kimmel (Villanova), Shannon Ferguson (Rider), Erin Edwards (Navy), Michele Brokans (UMBC, now coach at Eastern U.), Renee Womack (Penn State), Rosie Tarnowski (Washington State), Colleen Magarity (three-time NCAA lax champ at Northwestern), Christine Matera (Harvard), Chelsea Shine (Virginia), Sarah Acker (St. Joseph’s, Delaware), Hanna Halteman (N.C. State) and Colleen Christian (USP).

The Fencor team that graduated high school in 2009 was one of the finer teams in Fencor's long and storied history. This team won 5 straight Mir-Atlantic Championships, 3 Sweet 16 finishes as AAU Nationals including a 3rd place finish in 2008.
'Some' of those players are; Christine Foggie-Vanderbilt University 1st team All SEC among many other honors including being SEC leading scorer. Emily Leer-Villanova University. Recently named All Big 5 player of the week. Tory Thierolf -Drexel University a 4 year player, Samantha Simononis Vermont University starter for the last 3 years. Tiffany Johnson West Chester University a junior starter, Gabby Vass Lebanon Valley College 4 year player, Samantha Greenberg Drexel 4 year student athlete, Sara Kiely American University, Captain and 4 year player, Lauren Ruhl Lebanon Valley College 4 year player.

Mission Statement

Fencor AAU Mission and Philosophy Statement

The Fencor Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Club is constantly striving to maintain its position as the premiere not for profit organization for the development of girls basketball in the Mid-Atlantic region.

It will continue to have a positive National and Regional presence and reputation by competing at the highest levels. Fencor, which is open to all interested players, will always be known as a teaching organization that help its athletes on and off the court. This help runs the gamut from reinforcing positive values to educating the players about college opportunities that are available.

Fencor recognizes the priorities of family, religion, and school, and enthusiastically accepts its role as a basketball related complement to those important responsibilities and relationships. At the same time we value and respect the benefits of participation in the game of basketball and will continue to treat the game for what it is- a chance for players to have fun, learn to compete and to grow as individuals.
